THE ALPILLES, ST. REMY & LES BAUX TOUR - 9 Hours
This morning your private guide will take you to a lovely area called the Chaîne des Alpilles, a small mountain range in Provence, located about 12 miles south of Avignon. The range is actually an extension of the much larger Luberon range. Although it is not particularly high – only 1,270 feet at its highest point – the Alpilles range stands out as it rises dramatically from the flat plain of the Rhône valley.
The Alpilles were immortalized in art by Vincent van Gogh, who painted many images of the landscapes here during his time in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence on the north side of the mountains.
