THE LUBERON & AIX EN PROVENCE TOUR

We’ll take you on one of the most delightful private guided tours of Provence, The Luberon and Aix en Provence tour. You start your day with a guided Aix en Provence tour and spend the afternoon in the Lubéron mountain range, a wild area with delightful villages like the hilltop Bonnieux, one of the finest villages here.

But first your private tour of Provence will take you to discover the charms of Aix en Provence. Founded by the Romans in 103 B.C., the city was invaded and damaged by the Barbarians, yet still managed to stay prosperous. At the end of the 12th century, Aix en Provence became the capital of Provence.

You will enjoy a guided walking tour of the vibrant city of Aix en Provence, appreciating the sumptuous architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as Aix en Provence’s markets and cafés, mansions and fountains, and lively streets and lovely stores. NOTE: Outdoor weekly market in Aix is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Aix en Provence was also the birthplace of the painter Cézanne; your tour guide will take you in his footsteps to see Mont Sainte-Victoire, one of his favorite subjects, as well as his studio.

Your tour continues to an interesting visit of the Luberon area, much of which is protected as a parkland. Here you can find more than 1,000 different species of plants and incredible oak and cedar forests that are home to eagles, hawks, snakes, beavers and the biggest lizards in Europe, among other fauna.

You will be impressed by the harmony between nature and the stone architecture of this wild region of Provence. The Lubéron is a very interesting area historically, as it was the stage for struggles between Catholics and Protestants in the 16th century. Depending on the season (end of June but July is best), you will take the scenic route back, crossing colorful, fragrant lavender fields, and stopping to visit a lavender distillery.
