This private upscale tour features the town of Oxford, home to one of the oldest and most esteemed universities in the world.

After picking you up at your hotel, your private expert guide will take you on a pleasant hour’s drive to the university town of Oxford. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the city, where you will see some of the colleges and hear about student life, then and now.

The university is comprised of 38 different colleges, some of which you will visit today, walking in the steps of 27 Nobles laureates and 26 British Prime Ministers to be educated here. There is evidence of teaching at Oxford dating back to 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Your tour will include a visit to the Bodleian Library, the University’s main research library and one of the oldest in Europe. Bodleian Library is second in size only to the British Library, with over 11 million items.

Afterward, you will drive out into the rolling green countryside to explore some traditional English villages and shop for some souvenirs, like beauty products made from locally produced lavender. Your drive will take you into the Cotswold Hills, with its elegant gardens and stately homes, and villages with quaint stone houses.

For an extended tour, you can opt to visit Blenheim Palace, the principal residence of the dukes of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. This optional tour includes a visit inside the baroque palace, the formal and pleasure gardens and the adjoining park, a total expanse of more than 2,000 acres to wander and explore. You can also drive as far as Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Note that this side trip will extend your total tour time to 10 hours.
