You will have an early morning private transfer from Florence to Siena, your home base of your privately guided mini-trip to Tuscany.  Before arriving in Siena you will have a brief stop in Monteriggioni, once a fortress and now a charming, walled, medieval village.

Built on three hills in the middle of the Via Francigena (pilgrimage road), Siena is one of Tuscany’s must-see destinations. This walled pedestrian city has an outstanding Gothic Duomo and another important church, San Domenico, which claims the skull of St. Catherine. It also has one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, il Campo, where the famous Palio horse race is held bi-annually.

With our suggestions, you will be able explore Siena quite easily on your own, seeing the city’s most important neighborhoods, squares and churches.

Day 2 – Montepulciano, Optional Winery Visit, Pienza, Overnight in Siena

Your Tuscany tour package from Florence takes you on a scenic ride through the countryside and tour two of the jewels of Tuscany: Montepulciano & Monteriggioni.

Today you will have a beautiful drive to reach the charming town of Montepulciano.  It is one of the highest hill towns of Tuscany, built along a narrow tufa ridge, with a long main street and alleys that drop away to the walls. It’s a stunning town, endowed with dozens of Renaissance palaces and churches. It is also well known for its wine, which you will have an opportunity to sample.

After your exploration of Montepulciano, you will drive through the beautiful Orcia Valley on the way to Pienza, a Renaissance town conceived by Pope Pius II. You will have free time to wander through the charming streets. The beautiful Via del Casello has a spectacular panoramic view of the Orcia Valley.  You may also enjoy the great shopping in Corso Rossellino, or visit the beautiful cathedral and the Pope Palace.  Pienza is known all over Italy for its fragrant, flavorful Pecorino cheese, which you purchase in one of its cheese shops.

Day 3 – San Gimignano & A Farm Visit: Wine & Olive Oil Producers, Transportation back to Florence

Today is the last day of your private Tuscany mini-tour from Florence. You will be transferred back to Florence at the end of your private day tour of Tuscany, in the medieval walled city of San Gimignano. You’ll see the famous towers of San Gimignano from afar. (While the town originally had 72 towers, only 15 are left today.) We’ll stroll the city and stop in the main squares, Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo. You’ll have free time to visit the church called La Collegiata, as well as the civic museum. You may also climb the big tower, see the fortress and the unusual torture museum, or enjoy the great shopping on the San Giovanni and San Matteo streets.

You will stop at a family-owned farm where they raise cattle and grow saffron, olives, grapes and more. Wonderful wine, olive oils, cured meats and honey are produced on the farm, and you may have lunch on their terrace, accompanied by San Gimignano’s fabulous white wine called Vernaccia. The view here is incredible, as you can see the hilltop town of San Gimignano past the valley and beyond.

After your private tour of San Gimignano, your tour guide will transfer you back to your hotel in Florence. Optional: private transfer to Rome or wherever you need to go.
