Day 1 – Chianti Private Tour: Greve, Castellina, Cellar Visit and Tasting, Proceed to Siena, Overnight in Siena
Today you will be picked up in Florence for your Chianti private tour. Chianti is one of Tuscany’s most picturesque regions, a territory of vineyards and hill towns that stretches from Florence to Siena. The Chianti region, world renown for its great wines, boasts scenic roads dotted with cypress trees, grapevines and olive groves.
Chianti Private Tour
Your Chianti private tour will take you to Greve, one of the prettiest villages in the Chianti area. There are several wine shops, including a small wine museum where you can sample and purchase wine and olive oil. There are also numerous shops surrounding Greve’s main square, Piazza Matteotti. You’ll have free time for lunch in Greve before going to another winery for more wine tasting. NOTE: You Chianti private tour can be fully customized to include your choice wineries.
Your Chianti private tour will also take you to Castellina-in-Chianti, another charming town with tiny medieval streets, lovely small Tuscan homes and artisan shops.
After your Chianti private tour, you will continue to your hotel at Siena. On the way your driver-guide will tell you all about Siena, its culture and the Palio.
Day 2 – Morning Guided Tour of Siena, Leisure Afternoon and Evening, Overnight in Siena
Siena + Chianti Private Tour
Built on three hills in the middle of the Via Francigena (pilgrimage road), Siena is one of Tuscany’s must-see destinations. The town has an outstanding Gothic Duomo and another important church, San Domenico, which claims the skull of St. Caterine. It also has one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, il Campo, where the famous Palio horse race is held bi-annually.
Your excellent guide will take you through Siena’s interesting history and its unique local culture. After the tour, wander around the various neighborhoods and visit its beautiful churches and museums. Siena has plenty of specialty shops, cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy.
Day 3 – Travel to Florence – Tour of San Gimignano, Return to Florence
This morning, on your return journey to Florence, your driver-guide will first take you to the medieval walled city of San Gimignano. You’ll see the famous towers of San Gimignano from afar. (While the town originally had 72 towers, only 15 are left today.) We’ll stroll the city and stop in the main squares, Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo. You’ll have free time to visit the church called La Collegiata, as well as the civic museum. You may also climb the big tower, see the fortress and the unusual torture museum, or enjoy the great shopping on the San Giovanni and San Matteo streets.
After you have had time to enjoy San Gimignano, you will be taken back to Florence.
