DAY 1 – D Day in Normandy Tour – Omaha Beach, American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Overnight in Bayeux
Today your D-Day in Normandy private tour will begin with a visit to Pointe du Hoc, one of the strategic German fortifications along the Normandy coast, where you will see a command post (now open). The task of taking it fell to Second Batallion of Rangers commanded by General J.E. Rudder.
Your private tour of Normandy will continue to Omaha Beach. You will spend some time here and have your lunch break closeby. After lunch you will proceed to the American cemetery and the Visitor Center, which features stories, photos, films, interactive displays and artifacts from D-Day.
NOTE: If your starting point is in the area of Bayeux or Cherbourg, a visit to Utah Beach and Ste. Mere Eglise will be added to this Normandy tour package
If you would like to visit Arromanches, you will skip the Visitor Center at Omaha Beach. In Arromanches, you will stop at the top, where you will see the artificial port on the sea and if interested, see a panoramic film about the Allied Forces’ first hours on D Day. There is a museum by the water in the village of Arromanches on the artificial harbor.
DAY 2 – Leisure Time in Bayeux, Tour of Mont St. Michel, Private Transfer back to Paris or to train station
Today you will spend some time exploring Bayeux before you depart for Mont St. Michel late morning. Bayeux has a tapestry museum, home to one of the oldest tapestries in the world. Consider a visit here. The 230-foot-long medieval cloth explains through its embroidered Latin inscription and pictures the events surrounding the 1066 Norman invasion of England, which began here.
This Normandy tour package also includes a tour of Mont St. Michel, whose namesake bay boasts one of the world’s highest tidal ranges, is a truly memorable sight. Your private tour of Mont St. Michel begins at the 8th century Abbey, a major cultural and pilgrimage center during the Middle Ages. You will visit the Romanesque Church, the monk’s cloisters and refectory, the Knights Room, the Guest Room, the Undercroft, and the Refectory. The tour also includes several chapels: St. Stephen, St. Martin, Our Lady Underground, St. Mary Magdalene, and the 11th century Crypt of the 30 Candles. After your tour of Mont St. Michel, you will return back to Paris.
Time permitting, on the drive back from Mont St. Michel to Paris, you will stop and tour the town of Villedieu les Poêles, famous for its numerous artisan shops selling exceptional goods made of leather, lace, copper and tin.
DAY 2 – Leisure Time in Bayeux, Honfleur, Private Transfer back to Paris or to train station
Today you will spend some time exploring Bayeux before you depart for Honfleur in the late morning. Bayeux is home to one of the oldest tapestries in the world. The 230-foot-long medieval cloth explains through its embroidered Latin inscription and pictures the events surrounding the 1066 Norman invasion of England, which started here.
The final stop in your private two-day tour will be the charming port town of Honfleur. Located on the Seine estuary, Honfleur has an unforgettable ambiance that has inspired artists, writers and musicians for centuries, notably the impressionist painters Eugène Boudin and Claude Monet.
