Your private Cortona, Montalcino and Montepulciano tours will take you to southern Tuscany, between the Arezzo and Siena provinces, passing through the Arno Valley to reach the charming village of Montepulciano. It is one of the highest of Tuscan hill towns, built along a narrow tufa ridge, with a long main street and alleys that drop away to the walls. It’s a stunning town, endowed with dozens of Renaissance palaces and churches, and full of beautiful vistas and odd little corners to discover. It is also well known for its wine. Wine tasting at a local wine producer with a historical wine cellar is planned.
This private tour in Tuscany will also take you to the town of Montalcino, where you will visit the 14th century fortress, the cathedral and the old Etruscan hilltop streets dominating the valley for miles around. Montalcino is world famous as the birthplace of one of the finest wines of Italy, the Brunello di Montalcino. You can pick up a few bottles of this fabulous red at a winery or in one of the shops you’ll find on your stroll through the town of Montalcino. You may customize a private wine tasting tour in Montalcino to include one of the most respected wine producers in Tuscany. There are several options to choose from for guided cellar tours and wine tasting of the well respected red, the renowned Brunello di Montalcino. Let us know if you have a favorite producer you would like to visit.
This day trip in Tuscany also includes Cortona, a lovely mountaintop town straddling Tuscany and Umbria. Cortona is a very well preserved Etruscan town, which belonged to the “dodecapolis” of the 12 main Etruscan cities. Today, it’s possible to see the original city walls dating back to 5th century B.C. You can also visit a very interesting Etruscan Academy displaying bronzes, vases and other objects from the Etruscan era.
You will have free time to explore Cortona’s main attractions, including churches, museums, and the shopping area of Via Nazionale.
