You will be greeted by your Normandy tour guide at the train station in the late morning, when your private Normandy tour will begin in Caen. The town is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who was buried here, and the heavy battles that took place here in 1944, destroying much of the town. You will enjoy a short driving tour of Caen, including its huge medieval fortress, an 11th century castle built by William the Conqueror and the Men’s abbey where William the Conqueror is buried.

Next you will stop in the small historic town of Bayeux, home to one of the oldest tapestries in the world. The 230-foot-long medieval cloth explains through its embroidered Latin inscription and pictures the events surrounding the 1066 Norman invasion of England, which began here. Your tour of Bayeux allows for a quick Normandy-style lunch here.

After your tour of Bayeux, your guided tour in Normandy will continue with a stop at la Cambe, the German Cemetery where 21,000 German soldiers are interred, on the way to Utah Beach. This was one of Allies’ key landing beaches and most successful military maneuvers. Here you will have an opportunity to see some bunkers built to protect the Allies.

Next your tour guide takes you on a private tour of Ste. Mere Eglise, one of the first towns liberated by the Allies. You’ll have a private tour of Ste. Mere Eglise’s Airborne Museum, which pays tribute to the American paratroopers who descended on Ste. Mere Eglise as it burst into flames. This informative museum maintains an extensive collection of photos, films, interactive displays and artifacts from the ill-fated D-Day landings. You may also visit the town and its church, whose stained glass windows depict the paratroopers rather than religious subjects.

After your guided tour of Ste. Mere Eglise, you will be taken to your hotel in Bayeux or the train station there for your return to Paris.
