Enjoy a private shore excursion from Marseille with your private English speaking tour guide to some of the most beautiful places in Provence. This delightful shore excursion is a treat for the senses. Your Provence private tour begins with a walking tour of most charming cities in southern France: Avignon. Tour of imposing city walls, Avignon is well known as the residence of the Pope in the 14th century. You will visit the awesome Palace of the Popes and enjoy the enormous banquet rooms, original frescoes and floor tiles, and other details in its interior. The Palace paints a vivid portrait of the Pope’s life in that era.

After your Avignon tour you will enjoy a wine tasting in Chateauneuf du Pape, an area famous for its vineyards. After lunch, you will visit the ruins of the 12th century medieval castle here.

Next, your guided tour of the Provence countryside will continue to a goat-breeding farm, where you will sample several creamy goat cheeses. The “Banon” is the king of Provençal cheeses. Wrapped in chestnut leaves, this goat cheese has the AOC label (Appellation of Controlled Origin) as well as the “Dieulefit” or the “Tomme d’Arles.” As you tour the facility, your guide will explain the curing process, which follows different methods and produces various flavors depending on the region.

Your private guided tour will conclude with a visit to the Pont du Gard. This huge, perfectly preserved Roman aqueduct supplied running water to the city of Nimes and beyond. This marvel of engineering work has endured two millennia, attracting scientists, artists and visitors from all over the world. Your Provence tour guide will show you the 1,000-year-old olive tree a few yards away from this incredible site. This is one of the highlights of this Provence shore excursion. This magnificent monument is situated at the rim of Gardon Canyon. From its heights, one can admire the landscape of the valley and follow the flow of the Gard River, tributary of the Rhône.
