Enjoy a fantastic day trip from Rome to Siena in Tuscany. We'll take you to Tuscany’s jewel, Siena. Your
custom private tour of Siena takes you out on a drive through the Tuscan countryside.
Built on three verdant hills in the middle
of the Via Francigena (pilgrimage road), Siena
is one of Tuscany's crown jewels. Siena is
a beautiful city, car-free, and fun to
explore.
Siena claims several key historical sights,
including an outstanding Gothic Duomo and another
important church, San Domenico, which claims
the skull of St. Catherine. It also has one
of the most beautiful squares in Italy, il
Campo, where the famous Palio horse race is
held twice a year. Siena also claims one of
the oldest universities in Europe, which contributes
to the rich cultural scene here, with all sorts
of concerts, shows, art exhibitions and sporting
activities throughout the year.
Your private guided tour of Siena will give you an
overview of the city's most important neighborhoods,
squares and churches, before giving you some
time to explore them on your own. Eleven different
streets feed into Piazza del Campo, a huge
fan-shaped plaza lined with restaurants, cafes
and shops. You may want to skip the sightseeing
and head straight for the shops -- Siena has
many acclaimed specialty stores around the
main square and its main street, Via Banchi
di Sopra. Local delicacies include Panforte,
a cake with dried fruits and sugar; Ricciarelli,
classic Sienese almond paste cookies. Siena's has many great restaurants suitable for a nice lunch. A plate of pasta, pici, is typical of the area. This pasta prepared simply with garlic and olive oil or with wild mushrooms is delicious.
